SPAS students of Kisii University were
yesterday, 25th Feb issued with a suspension threat for questioning
the institution on the credibility and accreditation of their courses.
The students realized that their courses
are not accredited, when Higher Education Loans Board declined to process their
loans. Speaking to the HELB respondents at Kisii Huduma Centre on 24th
Feb, I was told that the students’ loans could not be processed, due to the
incompatibility of their registration numbers with the ones the HELB
recognizes.
The suspension threat issued by the
university union in lecture hall four was as a result of the fact that, the
SPAS students were on the verge of developing an ingrained tendency of
boycotting classes. Led by their class representatives, the SPAS students –
majorly the first years, made a consensus not to attend any lecture after
seeking intervention from the relevant authority with no success.
My efforts to reach the Institution’s
Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics affairs was futile, as I was told
that he was seriously committed to have a chat with me.
