A WALL OF BRICKS BETWEEN THE STICKS
David DeGea has not conceded a single goal in five competitive games for Spain.
The Manchester United star is currently in the UEFA Euro competitions with Spain.
After a deal to Real Madrid collapsed in the Summer, the incredible young star has remained focused, helping the Red Devils finish in the 5th position and clinch the FA cup.
Though there are speculations that the Spanish giants could be monitoring the state of DeGea in Manchester, with the arrival of Jose Mourinho, DeGea could still be in United to stay.

Impact of New coaches in BPL
By Lawrence
Otieno
Barclays Premier league (BPL) has been one of the
most adored football leagues in the world within the past four centuries.
This is due to the enthusiasm, the energy, power,
skills and prowess that both the players and football fanatics exhibit.
From derbies to duels that characterize the game
giving it a sense of glamour and impact that coherently attributes the league
to the followership experienced.
The Adorations are at times rewarded wholesomely by
the involved teams, while sometimes the hope for a better tomorrow diminishes
within the strands of the stadiums.
Far from the silky attributes of the teams and the
dedication of the players, a new incorporation into the league is arising, the
manager influence.
The current list of football managers in the
Barclays premier league is attracting attention not only of the football
pundits but the football family as a whole.
With Liverpool contracting the ever flamboyant
Jurgen Klopp, they have realized an instant improvement reaching the UEFA
Europa League finals in his first tenure as a manager at Anfield but
unfortunately losing to the Spanish side Sevilla.
Klopp who helped Borrussia Dortmund of Germany clinch
the German shield and reach UEFA Champions league final left the Signal Iduna P
ark based club by the end of 2014-2015 season before joining the reds in mid
2015-2016 season.
Another figure of interest is the new Manchester
City manager, Pep Guardiola. Guardiola who led Barcelona to a treble during his
tenure at the club and helped Bayern Munich clinch title after title penned
down a three years contract at the ‘Citizens’ club of Manchester.
Guardiola’s influence is always felt instantly and
football fans are highly anticipating that his tenure at Manchester City will
not be far much different.
Consequently, the special one is back to England!
And who does not know about Jose Phelix Mourinho?
Mourinho is one of the most successful coaches of
the century having lifted trophies with each team he coaches. Winning two
champions league trophies with Fc Porto and Intermilan respectively, he is
considered to be one of the best coaches in the planet.
Mourinho was sacked as Chelsea manager before the
end of the just concluded season, having had a poor start after clinching the
BPL with the club in the previous season.
Mourinho’s arrival back to England was as a result
of the exit of the Netherlands based philosopher, Luis Van Gal who within two
years as Manchester united manager helped the Old Trafford based club clinch
the FA cup and finish in position four and five respectively.
With Mourinho, Manchester United’s taste for victory
according to football pundits is guaranteed.
However with Claudio Ranieri leading Leicester to
the helm of the BPL in the just concluded season, the England based premier
league in proving to be no longer a giant affair.
Arsenal and Tottenham who have been classified as
sleeping giants for quite some time have sent a clear signal to the football
fanatics. Having finished in positions two and three respectively, the London
based clubs are announcing their influx from slumber.
With new managers are new signings, new arrivals,
new ownership and even new management, the BPL is growing, not only in stature
but also in colossal followership.
The upcoming season is proving unpredictable,
unfathomable, and according to the paperwork put in place, the insinuation is a
season of talent, a season of action and reaction, a season of soccer
unmatched.
After the coaches have shown a sense of commitment,
overhaul of squads and rejuvenation and fixing the relevant gaps created by
players who have quit their respective clubs for greener pastures, what will be
their impact to the premier league?
We can only wait, dream for tomorrow and wait for
the outcome.

Sportpesa premier league transfers

It is barely a fortnight since the Kenyan based
premier league transfer window flung agape and various teams have thrown
efforts into the market in attempts to bolster their squads.
Some players have opted for greener pastures away
from the much adored Sportpesa premier league while some have been shown the
exits by their various clubs – clubs that have viewed them to be liabilities
rather than utilities.
This has forced the teams to find replacements even
for the irreplaceable.
Coach Paul Nkata of Tusker has axed a number of
players among them his son Nkata Junior, Ronald Musana, and Timonah Wanyonyi as
the Brewers try to restructure and invigorate their squad. Much attention is on
the 24 years old Timonah Wanyonyi.
The 24 years old who joined the Ruaraka based club
from Leopards has had a poor spell with Tusker, he has had a good spell with
neither AFC leopards nor Gor Mahia where he previously featured.
Either Kenyan Weekly understands that the decision
to axe Wanyonyi from the Brewers’ squad was an agreement reached between the player
and the club officials.
AFC leopards as at now have secured the signatures
of five new players in their quest to
augment their squad; Malian import Ismailla Diara, Rwandese Emanuel Emanishime
formerly with Azam, Ugandan Robert Omunuk, Hamida Kwizera and Charles Bruno from
Sony Sugar.
The 12 times Kenya premier league champions have had
a poor run in the first leg of the season, playing 15 games and garnering 17 Points
out of a possible 45.
Conversely they have axed eight players; Solomon
Nasio, Khalid Jumaan, Eugene Musilwa, Clement Mata, Kevin Aketch, Simon
Shikuku, Emanuel Onyancha and Daniel Kiptoo Were.
Defending champions Gor Mahia have secured the
signatures of Baron Oketch from Western Stima, Wellington Ochieng from Sofapaka
and Brazilian striker Thiago Lima Da Silva while there are speculations that
Ugandan national Khalid Aucho might be leaving for greener pastures.
The 15 times champions are in quest to clinch the 16th
title and the fourth consecutive since 2013.
Awendo based Sony sugar has also acquired the
services of striker Jeremiah Wanjala from Kakamega Home Boys and defender
Josephat Oyugi from Sofapaka. According to coach Salim Babu, he believes Wanjala
will be the answer to his striking woes.
The sugar millars have had a good start to the
season. Having survived relegation last season, Babu has helped Sony finish the
first leg of the campaign in the 9th position.
On the other hand, the sugar millers’ have released
Daniel Ochieng and Hassan Mohamed.
However, Bandari Fc as at now haven’t acquired the
services of any new player after recruiting Dan Sserunkuma, formerly with Gor
Mahia, Edwin Lavatsa, Feli Mulumba, and many more at the start of the season.
As the transfer window shuts in July, the teams will
be looking forward to success after a busy transfer period.

A lost Course
George Orwell’s classical Animal Farm
depicts succinctly the current situation in Kenya.
It should not be lost to a Kenyan that
the country has always been something sort of schizophrenic personality whereas
citizens have always agitated for change and reforms.
There have been consistent retrogressive
and status quo forces which are ill bent to thwarting the liberation mission.
Such was the state of Russia, in which
the Orwell’s novel mirrors, before 1920s. Several revolutions had been staged
but the result was false hope to the Russians.
It was against this backdrop which
Mussolini and company led a revolution in which the compatriots thought would
be the final curtain down of Russia’s dictatorship, lawlessness and bad
governance.
However, after the revolution, what the
Russians witnessed was different.
It was ironical that those who led the
revolution plunged into leadership squabbles based on political expedience,
mega corruption scandals, political assassinations and exiles that saw the
Soviet Union slide back to Mussolini’s dictatorship that was witnessed up to
World War II.
Now, that is Russia then for you Kenyans;
not any different from your country. Perhaps Animal Firm elucidates the
picture vividly.
After the animals led by pigs overthrew
oppressive Mr. & Mrs. Jones from the
farm through a revolution, another era of tyrannical reign by animals was
ushered in.
The new head (pig) betrayed the cause,
exiled critics, assassinated patriots, embezzled and milked dry the public
granary, oppressed and manipulated the weak.
The just cause was sacrificed on the
altar of personal expedience. It was a betrayal of camaraderie. What followed
was the change of laws.
The outstanding one provided that all
animals are equal, but other animals are more equal than
others.”
When one critically examines the type of
leadership in Kenya, the glaring grotesque episodes from Animal Farm clouds
in the mind of the citizens. It sets in a state of despondence.
A test of a lost cause is left in the citizen’s
tongue. At such point, one realizes that the Country’s leadership lost the
direction immediately after ascending to power.
With this, citizens can only be
justified in losing trust, hope and confidence in the present government.
Where did the rain start beating the executive?
Some Kenyans argue that most of these leaders had no agenda when they were
seeking to be elected.
Only opportunistic circumstances favored
these pretenders to the throne. When some leaders were mischievously and
unconstitutionally strike off the race, it set a platform for even greenhorns
to win as was intended and as had been calculated by some forces.
Kenyans were forced to make a choice.
They settled for the ‘lesser evil’ which has now evolved to the most ‘grievous
evil.’ The so-called leaders who were speaking the citizen’s language have long
ceased to speak it.
The language during the campaign was; Digitization
of the education system, security of citizens, and generally championing the
welfare & interests of citizens.
The question is; has there been any
notable progress on implementing or addressing these weight issues? To many Kenyans,
the answer is no.
It seems that there is neither a plan to
champion for the welfare, interest nor security of citizens. There is limited communication
between the government leaders and members of the public.
There is no transparency and
accountability. There is no public participation in decisions affecting citizens.
Day in and out, Kenyans complain about robbery and attacks, demonstrations and
picketing as a constitutional right has been categorized to be a criminal
offense.
Poor infrastructure, miniature
resources, tribalism and nepotism are just some highlighted key challenges
faced by Kenyans.
In sum, when one casts eyes across from
East to West, North to south of this country, citizens are suffering and the
amity spirit is lost.
The tragedy is, those who should be
fighting for them are sleeping and stealing. They are mute and damp!
In John Githongo’s words, they have now
discovered that this is their time not only to eat but also steal and sleep.
To some of us, there is nothing good to
write about the present government, predominantly the executive.
It started on a wrong footing. One can
easily remember that they were superfluously jetted in to inauguration ceremony
with a long convoy of limousines.
Many wondered where the sleek cars came
from. This is coupled by the fact they ran expensive and flashy campaigns.
Probably the tax payers’ money being
stolen is settling the debts incurred from this senseless glamour.
Little things done by the current government
should be left to sycophants to praise them. For that is their work. That is
what they are “employed” for but we cannot fail to challenge them that every
system has self-propelling engine that keeps “little things” to be done.
Things like attending fund drives,
delivering letters and organizing or attending functions for selfish reasons and
by the use of tax payers money can be done by any systems even if they are not
in office.
Little things need nobody to be
performed. They are the cogs in the wheels of status quo.
Kenyans did not want a pro status quo government.
They yearned for a revolutionary and reform minded government, a government of
“young elders,” a government that can champion for the rights of that young
child whose bright future is dimming day by day.
Throughout history Kenyans have
demonstrated resilience in agitation for change and reforms. Once they realize
that they have been betrayed, they bounce back and do away with betrayers.
When one looks at the consistent Kenyan
spirit, a voice of inspiration creeps in. He or she stares blankly on the space
impatiently for the moments which Malcolm X would call “chickens have
come home to roost.”

KA ACHAN DOES NOT MEAN NI ARAN!
I was born a man
Always in quest to learn
And not to rob by gun
Ka achan does not mean ni aran
If I were an athlete I could run to earn
If president I could go for the third term
And even if jachan I could learn to farm
Ka achan does not mean ni aran
Humility was the advice from my mum
When you grow up please buy me a ram,
Mine is to wait for the opportune time to come
Ka achan does not mean ni aran
Remember Obama with yes we can
A phrase which made us unite as one
And made him the most powerful man
Ka achan does not mean ni aran
Education is all I want
For it can move everything apart
And even pay ones rent
Ka achan does not mean ni aran
After death the physic will rot
However your deeds will not
As broken pieces of a clay pot
Ka achan does not mean ni aran
Be a peace lover like Koffi Anan
Or triumphant as Mohamed Aman
Even hardworking as janam
Ka achan does not mean ni aran
THE HEROINE IN HER
From Kajiado County hails a lady of passion,
A lady whose life she has learnt to live with cushion,
One of her kinds in the go – getter mission,
And an intellect in the journalism profession
Lucy Mutungi is her original name,
To be the best communicator is her main aim,
Rising bit by bit to the list of fame,
And to be at the highest journalism helm
A chat with her conglomerates ethical journalism,
From amateur reporting to real professionalism,
Inculcating ethics, etiquette to mannerism,
With a golden heart that has no void for racism.
Nurturing young talents at any cost she will incur,
A good initiative that most of you will concur,
Day after day her good works always recur,
Leaving a rich history which her successors will

THE DREAMS OF MY FATHER
My dad had a dream,
A dream to be a good father,
And a fantastic grandfather,
But for me I have a task,
A task to make my dad’s dream come true
My dad had a dream,
A dream to be a successful teacher,
With a daughter-in-law who is a teacher,
But for me I have a task,
A task to make my dad’s dream come true.
My dad had a dream,
A dream to have educated children,
In conjunction to respectful grand children,
But for me I have a task,
A task to make my dad’s dream come true
My dad had a dream,
A dream to own a bungalow,
And to have a child pursuing law,
But for me I have a task,
A task to make my dad’s dream come true
My dad had a dream,
A dream to own a large heard of cattle,
And various households including kettle,
But for me I have a task,
A task to make my dad’s dream come true
My dad had a dream,
A dream to own a large piece of land,
And to practice agriculture on the piece of land,
But for me I have a task,
A task to make my dad’s dream come true
My dad had a dream,
To educate his children up to the university,
And pursue courses of great diversity
But for me I have a task,
A task to make my dad’s dream come true
My dad did not have a dream,
A dream to give birth to a journalist,
A journalist and a good communicationist,
But this is a task I am entitled to do,
Journalism and poetry are what I was born to do.
PRIDE OF A KENYAN
Kenya oh Kenya,
The land of my grandfather,
The great land of my father,
And it’s the very land of my mother.
Kenya oh Kenya,
The mighty land of diversity,
With inhabitants full of generosity,
But with leaders full of curiosity.
Kenya oh Kenya,
The motherland of the American president,
And the Oscars award winner what a coincident,
The truth is that they are both proud residents.
Kenya oh Kenya,
The attraction of tourists,
With streets crowded by motorists,
The domicile to award winning journalists.
Kenya oh Kenya,
The market to flavoured soft drink, fanta,
Not forgetting the controversial pastor,
And the ever blood thirsty bounty hunter.
Kenya oh Kenya,
The heart beat of Africa,
Perfect destination of goods from America,
And traders from everywhere including Antartica.
Kenya oh Kenya,
The country of unmatchable democracy,
Within every institution the talk is beurocracy,
But our
leaders are driving us to aristocracy.

In the Dark Stands a Man
From East
to West the night was very dark,
And in the
dark stood a motionless mark,
The neighbor’s
dog hesitated not to bark,
For in the
dark stood a foreign mark
Oh no he
is an inexperienced night runner,
The
youngest son of village the charcoal burner,
For he
know not the how and the manner,
Don’t ask
me why for I can't even mummer.
In the
dark stood a man fully naked,
A perfect
indication of how they are waked,
Despite
this to some they are more than loved,
But not to
me for I abhors this act.
To and fro
they run and run,
Stealthily
and quietly for they believe in yes we can,
With no
celebrations of a race greatly won,
And this
is why they are troublesome men.
That man
in the dark is a member of the society,
The movement
of the dogs does not affect his anxiety,
For they
claim knowledge of the topography is a necessity,
And that
man in the dark is confirming the reality.
That man
in the dark is not yet a father,
Neither
does he know the love of a mother,
For twenty
years they haven't seen one another,
But that
man in the dark is more than a bother.
FROM STARS TO STRESS!
Years have
come and gone,
Day by day
children are born,
With no
serious trophy being won,
From
Harambee stars to Harambee stress!
In the
stadiums danger larks,
With
players from Kariobangi Sharks,
Now tell
me what the stars lacks,
From
Harambee stars to Harambee stress!
Okumbi has
tried his best,
To get the
players to their best,
And
provide results perceived to be the best,
From
Harambee stars to Harambee stress!
In Guinea
Bissau they saw dust,
Even
though the event is already past,
But in our
minds it will always last,
From
Harambee stars to Harambee stress!
Though it
pains but thanks to sportpesa,
Who after
the match made me visit m-pesa,
And even
dreamt of recharging my visa,
From
Harambee stars to Harambee stress!
'Team
change' is now helpless,
With
nights to him now becoming sleepless,
And being
in public now becoming needless,
From
Harambee stars to Harambee stress!
I miss
Harambee stars with Mahamud Abbas,
Guys who
could transverse the continent by bus,
And the outcome
will always be good results,
From
Harambee stars to Harambee stress!
Kenyans
now believe the stars will proceed nowhere,
Even after
recruiting players from everywhere,
Their
underperformance to me is like malware,
From
Harambee stars to Harambee stress!
